Being Alone for The Holidays

The Anatomy of An Affair series with David Feder continues with Being Alone for The Holidays in Episode #7.

For many the significance of the Holiday Season is a combination of religious significance, gift-giving and reconnecting with friends and family.  But after an affair, what once seemed easy is now more complicated.  What is the right kind of gift to buy and what message do I want to give are now questions that need to be considered?  While we once looked forward to spending time together this year we worry about how to manage the awkwardness that may exist.

And what about the kids, don’t they deserve to have a good Holiday Season?  This is the time of year when some anticipate the arrival of Santa Claus, they look forward to spending time with parents, extended family and friends and they wonder whether the gift they so desire will be waiting for them.

How you spend time is not an all or nothing proposition and it is often best to give each other permission to have some alone time apart from one another.  Of course this requires trust that the partner who cheated is not going to use that their alone time to visit with their affair partner.  If this is still a concern then spending time together may not be a good idea and you should reconsider whether spending any time together during the holiday season is a good idea.

David offers advise and hope in this episode or The Anatomy of An Affair.   For more on David, visit: www.MyLifeAfterAnAffair.com.  Make the best of your holidays.  We wish you the best.  For more programs on divorce and life after divorce, visit www.DivorceSourceRadio.com.

Domestic violence, also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, battering, family violence, and intimate partner violence (IPV), is a pattern of behavior which involves the abuse by one partner against another in an intimate relationship such as marriage, cohabitation, dating or within the family.  There doesn’t need to be physical scars –there is abuse that results in emotional scars too.  There is sexual abuse; emotional abuse; controlling or domineering; intimidation; stalking; passive/covert abuse (e.g., neglect); and economic deprivation.

No matter what culture, religion, color, income bracket, profession there is no typical profile of an abuser or an abused.

Our guest, Penny Krowitz, is the executive Director of Act To End Violence Against Women.  She talks with Deborah Moskovitch and Steve Peck about domestic violence and what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones.  Over the years, Penny has played a leadership role in identifying the strategic issues facing Jewish women and their families and developing and implementing programs and projects to strengthen their lives.  Developing culturally sensitive shelters for women in select cities in Canada.  She has been the driving force for the newest Act To End Violence Against Women project to provide libraries in shelters across Canada for children and their moms.

You don’t need to be Jewish or Canadian to benefit from the important messages, lessons learned, tips and strategies that Penny shares.  This is an important show, and offers valuable help.

We discuss:

·         What constitutes violence against women?

·         Women today are generally very educated and aware – how would they become victims of abuse?

·         What are some of the myths and stereotypes about VAW?

·         Why do women stay in abusive relationships?

·         What are some of the causes of VAW?

·         What are some of your organization’s programs to end violence against women?

·         What is the vision of Violence Against Women?

On this episode of Being Single, Steve and Toni speak with a long-time Divorce Source Radio listener who has experienced infidelity in his past marriage.

As many of our listeners know, Toni was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network's series titled Unfaithful.  It's interesting to hear both a man's and woman's viewpoint of being cheated on.

Questions arise such as, What would make a partner cheat and how do you deal with this type of situation when you have children? Then their are the lessons of forgiveness and trying to move forward without bringing the baggage of bitterness from the past into the new relationship.

Even though Toni and Tren have been to Hell and back, it's refreshing to hear that they have moved on working to rebuild their lives with hope and trust.  If you have ever been cheated on, you're going to relate to this show and hopefully find a sense of comfort in knowing that others have experienced your pain as well.
